PAMELA BRYDEN
I was always been an active person and was a keen runner and rower. I was also a regular at another gym and kept fit, but struggled to lose weight. I decided in the autumn to put down my ores and leave rowing behind, the Scottish weather coupled with a Captain that was a little emotionally volatile meant I was dreading each training session and exercise suddenly became a chore.
Newlife gym was opening in the building I worked, so I decided to pop in and chat to David about what they offered. He was so friendly, enthusiastic and informative, so I decided to give one of the conditioning and then a jiu jitsu class a try. I was a really nervous about going into a 'fight gym' for the first time, but everyone was welcoming and it was a great atmosphere. The workouts were great and really fun and I was hooked from that moment on.
I looked forward to going to training, and although each session is tough, it doesn't feel like bog standard exercise. The coaches really mix things up so no two classes feel the same.
I have type 1 diabetes and really struggle to lose weight, at times I feel I have to work twice as hard to get half the results. With this training regime the weight just fell off, I lost 2 stone in the first 4 months.
I now train most nights at Newlife in all the classes including boxing, wrestling and muay thai and at 33 years young, I am in the best physical condition I have ever been.
